Directional Signs

Hieroglyphic documents were able to be written vertically or horizontally, and from left or right. The direction of the lines drawn among the letters and the direction of the faces of letters for humans and animals indicated the direction of writing. If you need the information of such the writing direction when brailling, you put a directional sign below before the signs for hieroglyphs.

For putting the locational signs mentioned later properly, you need to know if it is written vertically or horizontally. If you do not need the information if it is written from left or right, you put the directional sign of "not mentioned."
You put spaces before and after the directional sign. You put one space between the hieroglyph-opening sign and the directional sign without doubling spaces.
If you do not need the information of the writing direction, you do not put a directional sign. When not putting a directional sign, you do not use the locational signs mentioned later in the hieroglyphic sentences, and put spaces in a different way.
